Sabine's reverberation formula
Detailed Description:
If the volume of a room and the total equivalent absorption area present in that room are known, the reverberation time can be estimated using Sabine's formula, where T is the reverberation time, V is the volume of the room, and A is the total equivalent sound absorption area.
The discovery of the close relationship between the volume of a room, the sound absorption of the surfaces present in the room, and the reverberation time can be traced back to the physicist Sabine (1868-1919). Sabine found that the reverberation time T is proportional to the room volume V and inversely proportional to the equivalent absorption area A:
T = 0,163 x V / A
