Ultrasound (often abbreviated as US) refers to sound with frequencies above the human hearing range. It covers frequencies from around 16 kHz. Sound with a frequency of around 1 GHz or higher is also referred to as hypersonic sound. Frequencies below the range audible to humans are referred to as infrasound.
