Keyword:
Sound insulation

Detailed Description:
Sound insulation refers to the restriction of sound propagation by room boundaries. Sound insulation is therefore a measure for the acoustic separation of rooms against unwanted sound from neighboring rooms or from outside. This has nothing to do with the required acoustic sound absorption in the room (see also "Sound absorption"). Sound insulation is a fundamental parameter in building acoustics. A distinction is made between airborne sound insulation and impact sound insulation. Airborne sound is generated by sound sources in the room that have no direct connection to the room boundaries, e.g., people talking. Impact sound, on the other hand, is generated by structure-borne sound (footsteps, knocking), which in turn causes walls or ceilings to radiate airborne sound. There are building regulations for both airborne sound insulation and impact sound insulation.
