The Selador Glossary Presents:

Keyword:
Octaves

Detailed Description:
Acoustic parameters such as sound pressure level or sound absorption coefficient are usually specified in increments of octaves and thirds. Precise knowledge of acoustic properties in the smallest possible frequency increments of sound is a prerequisite for accurate acoustic planning. Relevant octave frequencies in room acoustics are 125 Hz, 250 Hz, 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz, 2,000 Hz, and 4,000 Hz. The octave steps are obtained by doubling the previous frequency. Each octave contains three third-octave values.
